Documents international applicants forget until the portal asks

Stack of sorted paper documents and folders

Job portals in Germany often expect more than a CV file. Applicants who scramble for scans at midnight send weaker packages.

Employment references (Arbeitszeugnisse)

In Germany, written references from previous employers carry unusual weight. If you only have informal LinkedIn recommendations, say so briefly and offer contactable referees. Do not fabricate Zeugnis language.

Certificates and transcripts

Scan degrees and relevant course certificates at readable resolution. Rename files clearly (Lastname_Degree_Year.pdf). If a document is not in German or English, note whether a translation exists.

Work authorization clarity

You do not need to write a legal brief in the cover letter, but recruiters appreciate one factual line about your status or intended timeline. Ambiguity here slows shortlists.

Photo and ID hygiene

Keep passport scans out of the application pack unless explicitly requested. A CV photo is not an identity document.

An Application Package Review is useful when you already have files assembled and want a risk check before a deadline.
